(Artist: Lindsay Rapp) Next Mondayโs Mythological Challenge theme will be the goddess of Yoruba Mythology, Yemaya. Yemaya is the orisha of the surface of the ocean. She is the other half of Olokun, sometimes a sister & sometimes a wife (sometimes, they are androgynous). While Olokun is the Keeper of Secrets & rules over the depths of the ocean, Yemaya presides over the surface waters. She has great power as the Earth cannot thrive without her. I do hope youโll join in, dear RC friends. ๐๐ ๐ฅฐ๐

Suzy, do you know that in Brasil, thereโs a lot of people who practice these African religions till nowadays? Iemanjรก, in Portuguese, is celebrated all year long, for people who attends African religion. At the last day of the year lots of people, at the beach or on boats, wearing white, go to the sea to give gifts, (flowers, jewelries, mirrors, etc) to her. Sometimes sheโs represented like a mermaid, sometimes like a beautiful Goddess. Sheโs the Queen of the seas.
