Did you know the iconic barber shop pole was an advertisement? Barber shops did "bloodletting " as part of their service. The red represents the blood, the blue ( in the US only) is the veins and the white, the bandages. The "surgical proceedures" ended in the 1500's ... but the symbol remains the same.
You could get a shave and a useless procedure to "cure" disease by bloodletting.

@TracyNWOregon🌲 haha-Yes & how Europe has only Red & white ones &when I was a lil’ girl my family took a few trips to Williamsburg,VA-the old colonial place & that’s where I learned about the spinning💈for letting people know they also did pulling teeth, amputating limbs & some minor surgeries. I learned more as I was older about the history & why that the barbers took it because of a Pope telling monks & priests they could no longer do it&Kudos 2U4remembering dates-I was always terrible!🤔🤯😆
