My school starts next week, on Tuesday August 30th. That week we only have a four day week, and the next week is also a four day week because Monday is a national holiday. And then things go back to normal with five day weeks! If you have questions about the American school system, ask! I’m a bit curious about your school system as well- when do you start?

I’d like to know about how many language or which one can you study in your school. Because in my school there’s only English as a second language but you already know it! So I guess there’s something more interesting in your school ( like Spanish maybe )

1 year agoOh okay! In my country (the USA) school start times vary around the country. I know some people who start in the middle of August and some who start when you do, and some who start after you do. (Oh that’s so cool! What language is it?)
So I live in a small agricultural community and I don’t have as much variety in classes as others in bigger cities do. But at my school, the ONLY foreign language is Spanish. We used to have French as well but the teacher quit and hasn’t been replaced-

1 year ago-also some bigger schools have German or Japanese as options for foreign languages.
Foreign languages are available to take in middle school for those three years (ages 11-13) but ONLY if you’re not in band or choir. The middle school in my town no longer offers a language because they can’t find a teacher. So the only time to take a language now is in high school (ages 14-17) but it’s only required for two of the four years, and depending on some students career pathways, they may not take-

I don’t know how much you know about America grades so I’ll explain it real quick (it will make my explanation of the languages make a bit more sense)
Elementary school is grades K (stands for Kindergarten and is like grade 0) 1,2,3,4 and 5. Elementary school is between the ages of 5-10. Then middle school is grades 6,7,8. High school is grades 9,10,11,12, and grade 12 is the last grade before students can go on to college (university) or trade school or just find a-

1 year ago-job. All school up until university is free. There are some schools that require tuition but those are private schools or boarding schools.

День знаний is a Russian phrase so, yes, I’m Russian ( if it’s not okay to you, I’ll understand) And I think you’ve already knew that I’m Slavic because of name ( or maybe not )

I don’t like when people stereotype me and I see h@t!ng all Russians as a similar thing, assuming that all are bad because of the choices of some people in the government so I honestly couldn’t care less about you being Russian it doesn’t change how I think of you at all!
I am curious about your school system. You mentioned that you’ve been learning English in school- how old were you when you first began learning it?

Well I’ve started learning English in 2 grade (I was 8 years old and it was in primary school). It was really interesting so I went to language school to study English on a higher way than in my school. Now I’m 13 and I was going to pass PET exam and reach B1 or even B2 level but I can’t do it now. I think you know that big companies have stopped working in Russia and Cambridge Exams (or something like that) was one of them 😭

1 year agoStrawberry girl is exactly right. You aren't the reason anything is going on with your country. We don't want to be judged by the actions of anyone we've ever had in government either. It's great that you've come so far in a foreign language and I applaud you for that! 🌼

Yes, I adore languages especially English but also I’m learning Italian. My dream is to start learning Dutch, the only problem is that I can’t go somewhere to practice and use these languages :(

1 year ago@Insomnia 🦩 Maybe someday though! I studied German for 5 years and really enjoyed it, but there isn't a huge German population anywhere I've lived in the US. Spanish would have been much more useful in business, but everyone was taking it! 😅 I wanted to be different... Our high school offered French, Italian, Spanish and German. We had many exchange students so they tried to offer languages to support them. 🌼

1 year agoThat’s so cool! That’s one thing I wish American schools did- start teaching a language earlier. Are there any other languages that you want to learn? Wait what’s the PET exam and what are the levels B1 or B2? I’ve never heard of that before 😅 omg that sucks I guess I never really thought about how it was impacting schools.
