Today is Emancipation Day in DC. On April 16th President Abraham Lincoln signed the Compensated Emancipation Act of 1862, which freed over 3,100 enslaved persons in the District of Columbia. In our neighborhood we honor the people of color who were buried in this park- a former grave yard- with luminaries and music. DC will celebrate with a parade, concert and fireworks. Freedom is wonderful blessing🌸

2 years agoWow 💗💖 An excellent and truly wonderful tribute. Freedom is definitely invaluable 💙 Would you go out ti see the celebrations ? Be careful if so and don't forget the mask. Due to the situation here, many have neglected the mask habit. The repercussions would only come later. 😟 I have slept most of the afternoon and evening - I have no idea where this sleepiness comes from but its sure refreshing to get up without an agenda. 😴😴😴💤💤💤💤 Maybe the heat plays a part in sapping energy. 😎

2 years agoWow that’s so beautiful thank you so much for sharing this. Here it is almost 11 pm and everyone else is sleeping so I wanted to get caught up a little. Having a wonderful time with my grandkids. Went to an Easter Egg hunt at our church and then we dyed eggs. Tomorrow we have a egg hunt at my house and then our Easter Dinner wanted to have it outside but our temps were in the 30’s. Supposed to warm up again in a few days hopefully to stay this time. 2 years agoFantastic, did not know about this celebration. Very interesting! Freedom is a wonderful blessing, but it’s so disturbing to hear how the idea of freedom is being perverted by one political party to mean “freedom is my right to make you all live by my religious rules, prejudices and banning of books & ideas that threaten me and white, male patriarchy.” Real freedom and Democracy is still worth fighting for as Ukraine has demonstrated. Sorry for the rant. Thank you for this wonderful piece ❤️❤️❤️
