Join us this Tuesday and Wednesday (3/26-27/24) for the Beautiful Bird Challenge. Female yellow-shafted Northern Flicker. Northern Flickers are large, brown woodpeckers with a gentle expression and handsome black-scalloped plumage. Unusual in their ground activities, they eat mainly ants and beetles, digging for them with their unusual, slightly curved bill. In flight they show a flash of color in the wings โ yellow in the Eastern USA, red in the West โ and a bright white flash on the rump.

I dedicated a pic to MelodyB who suffered from a fire in her complex. It was a terrible fire in which she lost her dog and cat. She and her brother made it out alive. She is suspending her challenge until mid April. Blessings. Hugs. Cyndee
