2 years agoGorgeous hoopoe! Fabulous coloring, Lori! So sorry I missed this beautiful bird last week. During breeding season, the female Hoopoe (Africa, Asia, Europe) expels generous amounts of a thick brown liquid that smells just like rotting meat. With her beak, she coats her feathers in this putrid goo, and if she has a newly laid clutch of eggs, she’ll coat them in it, yielding a repulsive nest situation.
